The top travel trend for 2010 will be the rise of the two-week adventure holiday, according to STA Travel.
According to the group there has been a sharp rise in the number of people planning action-packed two-week breaks, marking a clear departure from the staycation, last year's top travel trend.
Commenting on the popularity of the adventure breaks, John Warner, managing director of Gap Adventures, said that a fortnight affords plenty of opportunity to see the attractions a country has to offer, as well as having some unforgettable experiences.
He added: "Combining volunteering with some sightseeing and adventure travel is another sure fire way of making the most of a destination."
The Galapagos Islands were recommended as a top destination for altruistic travellers, while for those who are out for an action-packed trip, Costa Rica is the destination to head to.
As well as white water rafting, mountain biking and horse riding, the country also offers volcano walks.
