Individuals are attracted to entrepreneurship for a range of factors besides making money, an expert has said.
James Caan, CEO of private equity firm Hamilton Bradshaw and former panellist on the BBC's Dragon's Den show, said the independence offered by entrepreneurship allows people to enjoy a better quality of life.
He noted that there is a freedom and flexibility offered by entrepreneurship which appeals to people.
"There is a perception that when you are running your own business you have that freedom, that flexibility, the ability to create your own destiny, which all to me seems wrapped up in it being a better quality of life," Mr Caan said.
He added that the ability to make money is certainly a draw, but noted it is not the only appealing factor.
His comments follow research from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development which found that some 37 per cent of employees believe their standard of living has worsened over the last six months.
