Investors eager for fresh earnings data

Friday, 17 July 2009 09:07:50 GMT

Encouraged by positive Q2 results from the likes of JPMorgan Chase and IBM, investors are turning their attention to US financial majors Bank of America and Citigroup for further indications that recovery is on the horizon.
Securities have enjoyed a strong week so far as IBM boosted its outlook for the year on the back of strong earnings, while JPMorgan also exceeded its forecasts for the quarter.
Meanwhile, forex traders have also shaken off their aversive attitude to risk and are moving away from hedge currencies and into higher yielding assets.
This morning (July 17th), attention is turning to banking majors in the US, along with General Electric, which will also be posting results and giving an insight into the health of the energy industry.
Speaking to Reuters, Takahiko Murai, general manager of equities at Nozomi Securities, commented: "Earnings from U.S. banks have been upbeat, but there are concerns that the positive results could be limited to the second quarter."ADNFCR-2522-ID-19269861-ADNFCR
