Published by Zeb BhamMore needs to be done to promote sustainable travel options in the UK, according to the Green Alliance.Speaking to promote the new Live the Deal campaign to help travel companies adopt a greener business model, Rachel Carey, senior policy adviser at Green Alliance, said that while a small number of travel operators have made pioneering steps into the green travel markets, there is still a lot of work to be done."In particular they need to get an idea of where their main carbon emission impacts are by doing baseline calculations so that they can focus on reducing the main areas of impact," she said. However, travellers also have a large part to play in creating a greener tourism industry and she added that one of the largest contributors to the industry's emissions is long-haul flights, which usually makes far-flung trips less sustainable than local holidays.Local vacations may also be more appealing to those looking for money-saving travel options during this period of economic constraint. For competitive rates and commission free travel money, visit our Travel FX site
