The weakened krona is proving enticing for holidaymakers around the world, according to the Icelandic Tourist Board.
Commenting recently, Sigga Gróa Þórarinsdóttir, marketing manager for UK and Ireland at the tourism office, said that the country has had a particular appeal for British travellers as the krona still offers good value despite the weakness of the pound.
She added that the domestic country, after being racked by the banking collapse, is also reaping the benefits as tourists are spending twice as much as they did during visits to the country in 2008.
"There are extremely competitive prices for fly-drive and city break packages from UK tour operators on sale – especially for city breaks," she added, something which she believes will attract many more visitors in 2010.
She concluded by suggesting that for the authentic Icelandic experience, tourists should consider renting out a secluded self-catered summer house to take full advantage of Iceland's great outdoors.
