Published by Zeb BhamJamaica has become one of the most affordable long-haul travel destinations as the pound has strengthened against the Jamaican dollar in recent months, it has been claimed.Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Services, noted that there has been a 24 per cent rise in sterling versus the Jamaican currency in the past 12 months, making the Caribbean country far more affordable to visit."Our living costs comparison barometer shows that Jamaica is the cheapest of the four big Caribbean Islands for a basket of eight tourist staples including meals and drinks," she explained.Research from the group also revealed St Lucia to be the most expensive of the four most popular Caribbean islands. Her comments followed a statement from Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica's minister of tourism, earlier this month in which he claimed that the country is expecting strong tourism growth this year, building on growth of four per cent witnessed in 2009.For competitive rates and commission free travel money, visit our Travel FX site
