Farmers will continue to see the benefit of a weakened sterling in 2010, according to Farmers Weekly.
In a series of articles surveying business conditions for the industry in the coming year, the trade magazine declared that while foreign currency exchange rates will continue to encourage exports, some sectors face substantial investment risks.
Mike Houghton, an analyst at specialist consultancy Andersons, commented: "There are challenges for both broiler and egg producers. It is a highly competitive industry with relatively few large-scale buyers and prices to producers are constantly being adjusted."
He added that both sectors will also commit substantial funds to new housing and caging systems, as research has shown many facilities are out-dated.
The site has also predicted that 2010 will be an important year for discussion of reform of the Common Agricultural Policy, with food security expected to be the top priority for the European Union's new chief scientist.
