A market expert has claimed the next 12 months will usher in "a wealth of exciting opportunities" for those involved in global forex trading.
In an article for Citywire, head of currency at Insight Investment Dale Thomas said a combination of structural and cyclical forces looks set to create large moves in foreign exchange markets during 2011.
One of the key developments highlighted by Mr Thomas was the ongoing structural change that will see purchasing power shift from western consumers to those in the developing world.
"Investors will become convinced by the strong underlying fundamentals of emerging economies in 2011, which should lead to strong inflows into emerging market assets," he commented.
The expert also said that an overall upswing in the global economic cycle should benefit the currencies of nations like Canada and Australia, where economic activity is largely based on commodities.
However, a survey of strategists carried out by Bloomberg earlier this month indicated that none of the so-called commodity currencies such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand are likely to strengthen next year.
