'Head inland' for traditional travel experiences

People should consider spending their travel money further inland in countries like Spain and Portugal, an expert has said.
The two countries represent good value, Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet said, noting that people may be able to get more from their travel money in such destinations.
Once travellers have reached their destinations in the southern European countries, they are finding that living costs are "more reasonable", Mr Hall said.
However, for those who want to add another level to their experience of the countries, heading inland could be wise, he said.
Exploring areas away from the coast will allow people to see "totally different" places and atmospheres, Mr Hall noted, adding that they would still be "very traditional".
Doing things other than simply sticking to beaches and coastal resorts will allow people the opportunity to experience more of the countries, the expert said.
His comments follow the release of the Holiday Money Report from the Post Office, which found that sterling's performance against the euro over the last year has helped to increase the affordability of holidays in the single currency zone.
