With concerns about the weakness of the pound lingering, British tourists may find long-haul destinations offer better value for money than hotspots closer to home.
Frances Tuke, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), has claimed that there are many long-haul destinations offering exceptional holiday money value at present.
She added that even in traditionally expensive holiday hotspots such as the US are now cheaper because the global economic turmoil has brought down the cost of living, making a weak pound stretch further.
"Certainly any developing nation is good for us too. If you are going to five-star hotels you are going to [be] paying western prices," she explained, clarifying that the lower cost of living in countries such as Thailand, Egypt, Sri Lanka and Malaysia may offset this.
Her comments followed recent research carried out by ABTA and Kuoni, the Maldives will be the top long-haul destination for 2010, followed by Thailand and the US.
