'Consider budget' when buying overseas

Individuals considering a foreign mortgage for a home overseas should not overstretch themselves when making a purchase, an expert has argued.
Property specialist and presenter of A Place in the Sun Amanda Lamb said that many people will spend more than they can afford when buying a home overseas.
Ms Lamb noted that consumers should not buy in the belief that a rental income will cover the mortgage - it is important to be able to afford the home even without an income from it, she said.
"You have to make sure you are buying it because you want to use it and enjoy it. Don't buy something because somebody tells you you are going to treble your money over night," Ms Lamb added.
Using a specialist forex broker can help individuals achieve the best exchange rate when transferring currency for a large purchase such as a new home overseas.
Properties in popular destinations for Brits buying abroad, such as Spain, have fallen in price as a result of the economic downturn, presenting new opportunities for individuals to make a purchase.
